Fun and Games

So now having some time to relax and be a tourist, I have, well relaxed and tourist-ed around . . . Some highlights being Cenotes and Temples.

Lets begin with the Cenotes… They are basically underwater caves, each having their own personalities and features. The one I have had a chance to visit, The Garden of Eden, was a mix & mash of fallen trees and glimpses to the outside world. The contrast of light and darkness was spectacular. Seeing the jungle from a different perspective opens the eyes to a whole new world of diving. Caving is something quite special to the area and I can see why it can become addicting. At the moment I will hold off due to the cost of the training and gear. As I said, it’s a whole new world of diving. The course is a 10 day intensive course teaching you, well, how not to die. That’s not what holds me back, it’s the bill of about $1800 for the training and another $1500 or more for the gear. Any sugar mamas out there? This is the time to show yourself!

Temples are temples, it’s the history behind it that makes it special and memorable. Coba, one of the oldest pure Mayan cities is an example of that. Traditions such as basketball, well not really, but their version of ball. First to get the 8lb rubber ball into the “hoop” wins, simple no? Not when you can’t use your hands or feet. Only elbows, knees, and hips. Cool right? Winner buys the next round of beers! ……… not really, winners get the honor on sacrifice. In some cities that meant having your heart torn out and being decapitated. In Coba that meant bleeding as a sacrifice. You would have to cut your fingers, ears, tongue, and Penis…… Yes THE WINNERS. What an honor…

I’d looose every time.
