Lao Lao

So my lack of updates is not due to me not caring or getting lazy, it’s actually due to the lack of quality internet offered in the remoteness that Lao provides. Well that and a little bit of lazyness that Lao also helps encourage.

Starting in Luang Prabang, in the northish of Lao, I began to see what people mean when they refure to “Lao Time”. It’s a different type of mentality here and life really slows down. Things take longer, people move slower, I’m sure the world actually slows its rotation for anyone entering Lao. It’s hard to explain, things move slow but it’s ok because you move slower, breath slower, and think slower.

Kayaking along the Mighty Mee Kong river was a great way to explore the landscape. Visited waterfalls, got caught in downpours on the river, and lost our guide who later caught up and said he had to stop for some shots of whisky. Ahhh Shampoo your one of a kind. Oh yeah his name was shampoo, and his catch phrase was “OH MY BUDDAH!”

Another stop was the KongLor Cave, a 7km cave, I’m assuming carved by the river through what seemed to be the mountain, and the only way through this one is by boat. You stand at the mouth of the cave while the guides prepare the boat. By prepare I mean attaching the motor to the canoe like long boat, as well as bail out the foot of water that lies in the bottom of the boat. Watching them bail water out of this thing while looking into the black hole your about to enter, gives you a slight feeling of uncertainty. The only light in this cave is from the head lamp you bring with you. It’s almost enough light to see the bats above your head. Neat huh?

The rest of the time has really been spent sitting on a bus trying to get from one location to another. Each bus ride taking on average 9-11 hours. I’ve probably spent about +48 hours on a bus just in Lao. As I said, It’ll work out….. in Lao time.
