Fun toward the north

After my  time in Toraja I figured it was time for island life again. Traveling for 3 days I finally reached the destination of the Togean Islands. A collection of islands great for snorkeling, diving, and just doing nothing! The island I stayed on had scoop and pour showers, no cell reception, 5-6 hours of electricity a day, and lots of crystal clear water.

I spent most of the time Diving, reading, tanning, playing with puppies, while apparently the rest of Indonesia was exploding. Because of the remoteness of these islands I didn’t even hear about the natural disasters until 5-6 days after it happened.

After a relaxing time playing on another beach, it was up to Tomohon. I can’t come all the way to Indonesia and not climb a volcano right? There we have three choices, the first one climbed was a no brainer for two reasons. 1) It’s active enough to be smoking like crazy 2) It’s called Lokon (THAT’S MY CHINESE NAME!!!!) Great climb, the only downside was occasionally being down wind of the blowing fumes. One point I was coughing so much I felt like I was going to puke. Ahaha Ahhh sulfur what can’t you do? Arriving at the crater though made it all worth while. <<Tick>> Another thing off the list. As I say, If you can’t die doing it, it’s probably not worth doing. Am I right or am I right?

Next exciting thing was at dinner time. “Do you want to try Dog?” is what I heard, “uhhhh ….. ok” is what I replied. How was it? Boney and spicy. Ahah it’s a good thing I tried it before going to the market. Speaking of which the next stop was the big once a week market. This is where locals stock up on all necessary goods. Stuff like: fruit, veggies, python, bats, dog. You know the usual. This markets meat section was by far the oddest thing I have ever seen. Really quite gross, judge for yourself.

After all that excitement it was time to head back to island life. Can’t get too stressed out now can we? Bunaken known for its diving, it sits just of the main city of Manado. Not too shabby, another nice shack on the beach. Diver by day, bum by night. Whoot!
